Use mine every day. Totally didn't think I would but I love it. It worked really well when we had cox cable as our internet provider but uverse has been a bummer :/ it still streams well though :)
The quality on mine suffers a little but I have one of the earlier models so I imagine all the upgrades is pushing its hardware capacity.
My problem is with the mirroring. I swear I used to be able to mirror while also using my computer for other things, but I can't anymore. So everytime I stream I have to give up any kind of productive work on my computer, or work on a spare laptop / tablet.
That said the mirroring works great on my phone and iPad which I can still use just fine while it streams to Apple TV.
I use it for audio sharing (AirPlay) without issue, but video quality from the computer is mediocre at best. It's not the image quality, it's the FPS that lags badly. It is great for streaming from the internet though.
mirroring with my 5s is a match made in heaven. ios7 apps look maavilous. Always update firmware, and all will be good. It's great when friends visit and want to share photos 'in person'. for me it's all about the viewing realestate- so if you have a big phat TV - use it..Cheers
I don't own one, but I have used it on both an iPhone and MacBook Air. I think the quality is solid. I'd guess that if you have a weak wireless router it might suffer a bit.
I like to use it during parties, set up a photo stream and use it as the screen saver for music. Send out invites to the stream... then people can share to the stream and it shows up on the tv a few minutes later.
If you are in a saturated 2.4 Ghz WiFi area, streaming can become horrible. I recommend using a 5 Ghz WiFi router if you plan to stream any type of media to it.
Pretty much right after I posted this, I went out and bought an Apple TV. I didn't listen to any of your advice.
I really like using HBOGO, Netflix, Hulu, and ESPN. I'd used to use the Xbox for them, but Apple TV is a lot quicker.
I realized that I didn't have a new enough iMac and Mirroring wouldn't seamlessly work. However, I found out about Airparrot and that works just fine.
I can use Airparrot to mirror Popcorn Time pretty well, but Audio seems to be a bit weird to get going. Audio does not stream automatically, and it takes some futzing around to make Popcorn Time to stream audio.
Overall, I'm pretty happy. I get to listen to Groove Salad again.
I don't know what mirroring is, but I'm happy for you that you got it figured out. I would of just bought the Apple too. B/C I have other Apple stuff and they seem to work together.
if you have a fast network it works very well. i have one on every tv in my house - sometimes for mirroring, usually for watching tv, but it's particularly neat when 'extending' the desktop - keep the full display resolution and have the tv optimized for its resolution.
and i didn't realize i had 'shut up' turned on and saw none of the many replies...so yeah, late to the party in two ways...and already posted in meh forum more than i have in woot forum (joined woot january 21 2005)
It's mediocre.
rimshot

Quality is good for me. Use it to mirror lots of mediocre content.
Tbh you're probably better off just getting a cable

I use one at work sometimes, and yes, if your signal is weak you will have a lower frame rate.
I got one from goodwill, it powers on but i don't have a remote...makes a great paper weight on my desk.
I'll send you a remote for a few bucks if you want. (Apparently you can't hit enter in a reply. Mmk. Or I'd also consider buying it.)
There's an iOS app you can use as well... or you can use a programmable remote, most of them can be set up to work with it.
Kids have now lost two (2) remotes, so I gave up and just use the Remote app on my phone.
I've got 2 roku 3 and a kindle fire tv thingamajig i don't really need a remote, don't have a tv for it.
If you have a bluetooth keyboard lying around you can pair that for use. Also there's a $5 app for Mac 'Type2Phone' that works well for me.
I like to use it during parties, set up a photo stream and use it as the screen saver for music. Send out invites to the stream... then people can share to the stream and it shows up on the tv a few minutes later.
I use Kindle FireTV instead.. Which, is basically the same, only more Meh.

nacheen, explain?
WiFi = 802.11 a/g/n. Some of these transmit at a radio frequency of 2.4 Ghz and some run at 5 Ghz. 2.4 Ghz is often congested. 5 Ghz is not.
http://pocketnow.com/2014/01/23/5ghz-wifi
So I need a 802.11ac router then?

+1 on everything
