Hello, pile of beta testing friends...
13Feel free to post new topics, comment on them, reply to the comments, etc. You can try to break things if you really want, but we're really just wanting to watch some regular use and see how it goes.
Let me know what you think!

HI!
HIGH
oh yes, now we're saying important things
Hullo!
testing...
interesting. when I try to post something, I get a 500 server error after I click "say it", but then if I go back and refresh the page, it makes it on there.
actually, it only gives me the 500 error if I uncheck the "Notify me when someone comments on this topic" box.
well, now it's not doing it any more. So much for my data point!
hola!!
i just had the same experience as vidiot - 500 error, back, refresh, comment is there.
I have latest Chrome too, on a Windows box. Hmmm.
Odd. We did see that once before, but one of those ones that's pretty hard to track down. We'll check it out. It does seem to actually post the comment still.
i got the 500 error when i tried to sign up and enter an email adress as authentication just now. changed it to authenticate with my google ID instead and it worked, but hung for almost a minute before it did.
Just look at all these hijinx.
You're all crazy.
wait, did that do anything? ((FUCKING MAKRDOWN!!!1))
I don't think that the preview being to the right of the entry box is particularly intuitive...it's quick to get used to, but I'm more familiar with seeing it below the data entry point.
I came here to say just that. x2!
TYPING from nexus 7, so far so good. `
Oh, hai there.
Hey, it's more people! This is a pretty good way to find our most likely to become obsessed lab rats.
Also, we now know we need to start work on our Pony-filter.
thanks Obama!
Pony filter? Yes please!
Fun sucker.
Dave is secretly a brony.
Minivan widow testing: 🚹🚺🚼
I've noticed replying on my ipad mini can be weird at times.. See image as an example.
ooh, I think mine is arriving today, so I'll be able to check this out.
@dave FYI - Mine's just the standard, not the Retina
Too few characters for a real conversation. More twitter than forum.
@moondrake These comments can have something like 10,000 characters. The topic headlines are limited, but you can click "got more to say" and have whatever space you need. The replies are limited to 140, because we'd rather people use comments for longer replies.
Which area were you talking about?
So if you go to the top and select comment you get plenty of space, just not when you hit reply? Good to know.
Hey @moondrake! You don't need to scroll all the way back up to leave a comment. There should be a blue tab at the bottom of your screen with a speech bubble and + sign. If you would like to leave a full comment, click that.
It does seem like replies are limited in characters and editing for now. For example, you can put a link in a reply, but pics, vids, etc will not display in a reply.
But for comments, you may ramble on as you see fit.
Ah, that's what that thing is. I was afraid it was chat or something. Maybe that could have a popup legend when cursored?
Thanks, I didn't understand that he was missing that. And yes, a hover/title thing is a good idea. I may give up on the icons altogether.
How about adding he date of the original post on the main forum? It's always nice to know when you are replying to a year old comment... :-)
Yeah, I was trying to keep it clean, and hate having two date stamps, but it just may be necessary.
@dave I think I a 't' on 'the'.
I've been so busy this month that I hadn't realized that the comment section had opened up finally. Awesome, I think. I mean, is it okay to say that it is pleasant to have a comment section open? Or would the creators of the site prefer I say, "Meh, big deal. Everywhere has a comments section anymore?"
@bluejester It's our job to set the bar as low as possible. You are free to be surprised by it being better than you expected. Don't worry, we'll be sure and disappoint you later.
Ah good. I eagerly anticipate my forthcoming disenchantment with your burgeoning company.
woo!
This is thrilling!
Where am I?!
oh good. it updated when I changed the name on that acct.
Hi all! Forums are fun!
And I'm in! Woah, it's a whole new world.
Let's try an edit: Needs moar categories/subforums.
don't you dare close your eyes
Thinking through how we might do categories without splintering the forum up too much...
I'm testing formatting to see how this works.
test [test] followed by (url) no spaces
test - Single asterisk on either side
test - double asterisk on either side
Test- Double ~ on each side^Test - Single ^ prior to text
*Test - Single * prior to text
Where are the little gold stars next to comments? Users love little gold stars!
So it doesn't let me put an image in a reply...
BUT WHY!?
this text note that is appended to a comment is currently called a reply, but you can just ignore them and use a full comment instead
Lameâ„¢ Snappy.
You can add image if you just add a comment!
But then the person doesn't know the image is JUST FOR THEM! I can't just comment with a pic of my boobs for the WHOLE FORUM! Jeez.
Very true! Humm, and I can't reply directly to you, I have to reply to myself?
You could make a comment, do an @bogie and then embed the image. (And say THIS IS JUST FOR YOU!)
@dave, you're fired.
Crap, I knew it was a bad idea to allow any person anywhere to fire people. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
@dave There should also be a like button I can click so you know that I liked your comment, otherwise: @dave I LIKE YOUR COMMENT.
@date @marcee I LIKE ALL YOUR COMMENTS FOR EVER!
Also, hey @thumperchick. This is JUST FOR YOU:
Oh, hai there!
Make the emails stop!
Hey snarky. Do you see a "unsubscribe to emails about this topic" at the bottom of your email?
Open the comment window and uncheck the box that says, "notify me..." It is currently set to default to on.
/me waves.
First post! Thanks!
@c -
:)
Is there any chance to make it a bit more clear of who the author of a comment/post is? Light grey on white is tough for me to read.
Maybe we'll turn the text black on hover? My thought was to only have the comment text be black, so it stands out most.
Yep. It's a bit confusing. When I first pulled up the forum it was just a wall of text. The ownership of the text is vitally important
I'd like a like button, too. But how about an unlike button? Or an I disagree button?
I'd like to downvote the downvote button. I think it has led to a snarky attitude at other websites. Upvoting's good enough.
I think a downvote option just encourages drive by snarkery. If you disagree with someone - you should have to say it.
Also, there is a little star next to all thread topics and comments, click it, if you like it. It will add a gold star and points.
But you can't like comments on comments which gives me the sad face.
Purplefeather, checking in.
Studerc checking in and just happy to be here!
I guess I ought to report in too... CowboyDann Checking in. Take this shameless self promotion too!
Do you happen to sell Adverb goods as well? I will be running out here shortly.
Adverbs are currently on backorder. Supplier issues. Working on finding a new guy but It's looking bleak. Got lots of adjective goods though
Oh my God, Bear is driving. How can that be?
Oh grand, a new forum to violate.
i wish i had a fancy picture representing my username. so instead, i give you llamas with hats
OMG - this is the best thing to happen to me so far today!! But then, I've only been awake for about 20 minutes and haven't had coffee yet.
OK, I'm in! Can't wait till these guys start reselling al the stuff we sent them!
Finally made it over here to the forums
jumping into the pile :)
Posting a note seems to jump me to the top of the screen and lose my place. Complain.
Or was that just a flag?
Sorry late to stop in to check out the new forum. Does it help to know that you were on my mind ?
Hi Dave and everyone, Felicia Joy to the World here, just dropping by to see what the forum is all about. :-)
Is it really beta testing if you're wearing pants?
You've been wearing pants?
Seriously, who wears pants on the internet?
Why do we always beta test? Why can't we alpha test? And doesn't anyone Zeta Test?
And why is it most things on the Internet call themselves beta? Is it because they don't want people angry with them when their website or app fails?
Hello! Nice to meet you!
On the user page, the count for how many days a user has been mediocre has been stuck at one for at least a week now.
Still stuck at one.
Based on our user number, we should get free overnight shipping for any future Mediocre retail site. Also, we should get all the cool stuff first.
What's with all the comments? I thought this was a beta test...
And this is great fun. I've enjoyed watching the pics pop up on fb, but still waiting for my seilgman to show.
Thejackalope checking in. But don't cross me!
Dowutnow?
hola!
Can you hear me now? Good...
My computer skills are mediocre at best, so I'm not sure how to embed this video. It's an old Smother's Brothers song that has been haunting me ever since I discovered Mediocre Labs. Could this be your theme song?
What you did was much more complex. It auto-embeds if you just paste the url in (which I edited it to do).
I like how the forum sorts the posts with the most recent comments at the top and bolds them if new comments have been made since I last visited the post, but I want to be able to mark specific posts to be ignored if I'm not interested.
You can do the opposite, you can click the star and it goes gold, for posts you want to follow.
@mediacre, gee thanks, this crappy thread on top again.
exactly
@mediacre, I'd like the actual threads to do this when I open them...this thread for example showed at the top with new comments, I then open it and start at the very top and have to scroll through the 70+ comments (on my phone) to get to the new comments. Maybe there is an option to jump to last and I'm just not seeing it.
I feel like that might be above the scope of being mediocre
@Ignorant, if you click on the parenthetical update [ex. (ignorant commented 25 minutes ago)], at the end of the thread topic, it will take you to that last comment.
@gio, Thanks for the tip!
@gio, Thanks!
Bump. I couldn't resist.
Minor annoyance: If I log in from the home page, I am taken back to the home page which includes an invitation to, "Come in and say hi in our mediocre forum..." and includes a link to the forum.
However, since it's currently the place to be, I have the forum itself bookmarked on my desktop. When I log into Mediocre from the forum page I get a screen that offers me the choice of "MAKE SOME CHANGES, BASK IN THE GLORY, OR SIGN OUT." Nowhere on that page is there a link back to the forum.
Yes, I can reclick my bookmark, but it would seem much simpler/friendlier to either have a forum link on the post-login page, or at least be redirected to the home page with its invitation/link.
Please and thank you!
This. especially when i'm on my phone
@gio, Ideally, whenever you sign in it'd take you back to whatever you were trying to do when you got the nag to sign in. I think we're working on getting that working rather than having to put links to any place you might need to go from the account page.
Yes that is ideal! And it seems to have already been fixed. Thanks!
