How do you build your own holiday wish list?
0I always have trouble trying to think of things to put on my own wish list. Usually I just buy myself something if I want it, assuming it's not too expensive (and putting only expensive stuff on your wish list seems like a jerk move).
So I hunt through gift guides, looking for what I would like to get as a gift. This one's fun, though the stuff is usually crazily expensive, or sometimes not actually even available:

One thing I do to try to get cheaper stuff on the gift guide is look through ones from past years. The stuff's still cool, but might now be cheap. You can use Google's number-range query to help build something like this:
Gift guides on Wired from 2005-2012
Or on sites like Gizmodo, you can just change the url:

I just keep one going on Amazon. Anything I like a lot, but can't justify the expense of owning. Also books - tons of books. They're cheap and I devour them.
This just gave me an idea for an experiment... will post that in a new thread.
The Kindle ruined book-giving a bit. I get them as eBooks, but there's nothing to open on Christmas Day.
