Lytro Photography -- the future?
0I've been fascinated with the Lytro for a few years now... keep telling myself I'm going to buy one someday. They just came out with a new camera way outside my price range at $1,499.
Wondering what others think about this type of photography... will it stick around? Will it be the standard someday? Or is it too gimicky?

I don't know much (or anything, really) about photography but I really like the idea and it seems like the kind of thing that really creative people will get a lot of use out of.
Here's some articles with more info:

A friend got the original one. It was really fun to play with…for about an hour. They'd probably do really well to rent these out at tourist places, and hopefully camera stores will rent these high-end models, but I can't see owning one.
@dave Was your friend really into photography? What I hope for if I buy one, is that I can take a picture real fast without worrying about focussing, then I can process it (and focus it) later. How fast did it take pictures?
It's not super-fast...probably about 1 full second for a shot (but without the blur a full second slr shot would cause).
So... probably not good for catching anything moving then.
