The 0-click autobuy idea
1This one's really interesting, and I hope something comes of it. I've got some ideas about it, which are definitely mediocre.
You could elect to receive a discount on the next item up to $X dollars, but in order to get the discount, you're committed to buying the item regardless of what it is (hopefully it would just get shipped to you automatically).
You could stagger discounts based on how many people go for it, or don't.

So, it's basically a bag of crap, but it's not $3 or $5 -- What if it's a $400 lap top or TV?
I can't say that I would gamble that sort of money on something I don't need... or might not even want in the first place. There would have to be some sort of cap on the cost.
Now, if you said "it's going to be $20", I might take a gamble on it. It's actually a really fun idea, but that's kinda' what a BOC... er.. fukkubukuro is
You do bring up a good point there- maybe there could be a range of $ amounts- up to $20, up to $50, up to $100, and "Money is no object".
It would be a fun retail experiment, at the very least. Also quite fitting for the organization that used retail profanity marketing.. I like the sliding scale, especially. Hopefully the level of effort to program wouldn't be overwhelming and they give it a shot.
What about a vague, way open to interpretation description or video of mystery item and a set number of suckers before it will go. A kickstarter of mystery?
Why not just have a auto buy feature where it automatically purchases the item for sale with in a given price range. Such as, anything under 10 bucks is automatically purchased and shipped to you. However, a site like meh might need to add in a restriction to only allow auto purchases after a set time range. Or, set that time range per sale. If they think it'll sell out without the auto purchase then allow auto purchases after 9am or whatever.
Here's another idea that just came to me...
Say an item isn't going to sell out. It's 10pm and there's no chance for a sell out. So, let people auto buy at a discount. Let's call it a close out auto buy. Set a discount percentage and who ever falls into the price range will auto buy. For example, there's an item for sale at $20, the close out auto buy discount is set to 25% (it would be specific to each sale), so who ever sets their auto buy at $15 will purchase.
It'll give you a few more sales, but the markup has to be pretty high to still make money.
Space is money too. Clearing space might be worth the wash.
