Well hello there, Winter.
1Here in the midwest we're getting our first snow of the year, and it looks like most of the country is getting pretty hard over these next few days.
I bought some Pellets of Fire, honestly because that is an awesome name and how can you not want to have that in your house? But also because I'm hoping it help makes up for that I don't have a snow blower for my long driveway.
What sort of prep do you do for winter? Raid the grocery stores? Test out the generator? Or just get out all the blankets?

I'm sure people think fireplaces in texas are just decoration but I will be using mine the next few days.. Hope the power doesn't go out, especially if the weather is as bad as they're saying it will be.. Forecast as of Recent
The last time you guys got hit really bad with ice I ended up with 2 bonus [screaming] monkeys in a BOC. :D
When I pulled in to work this morning it was 41. I know that doesn't sound too cold but for us here in Southern California it's freezing! I live near some Ag land and apparently the county has allowed them to set small controlled fire to keep the crops warm.
I went night mountain biking last night here in SoCal and it was 40. It hurt (but not as bad as my wreck).
We put up holiday decorations and got the lawn furniture put up for winter, made sure the A/C was covered, started storing beer on the porch to keep it frosty and did the test run on the snow blower.
Whoa, you just added a bunch of stuff to today's to-do list.
@Thumperchick, Ok.. we'll party at your house? :)
The party was last night, we made ugly Christmas sweaters. But I guess a "wear your ugly sweater" party would make sense now...
@Thumperchick,
☑ Holiday decorations
☑ Lawn furniture stored
☑ Beer on the porch
☑ Salted everything like crazy (no snow blower)
☐ A/C covered
Uh, so what happens if you don't cover the A/C?
Snow, leaves, animals, etc. will hang out in there and cause problems.
In case you haven't heard, there might be some icy weather in Dallas right now. @middlemanager just told me about the live blog that Dallas Observer is running to highlight the overdramatic reactions to the weather. My favorite update so far was of the meat section in the grocery store being cleared out. Who stocks up on meat?
Enjoy!
@halesyeah, So the Weather Channel is still trying to name these things, eh? I suppose they're at least getting educational about it.
A little more creative than Karen or Jerry I suppose
My personal favorite part of the storm was the traffic.... way before the rain ever started.
and @halesyeah, the husband went out last night to get some meat for dinner-- completely independent of the storm. He had to trek to three different places to find ground beef!
