Really hoping to see some neat innovative ideas that are nothing like the past. Please mix things up and keep things exciting instead of falling back on old standbys and stale ideas. Excited to see what goes on in the future. I expect to see more people talking about cool things. Please no lame things like reputation and downvotes and strict rules on what can and can't be said in the forums.
Other than that, It will probably be a little prettier but still mediocre with a lot more people chatting and maybe even out of beta :D
Well, I'll point you back to the name and branding. We strive to be mediocre, and it's basically a certainty that we will disappoint most everyone, most of the time. So there's that.
Other than that, a main goal is to have more discussion just out in the open here, even with presumably pretty unpopular decisions.
I will say, I like reputation systems of some sort, though we can definitely think through what worked and didn't work in past reputation systems.
I would like to see a possible pm system in place at some point. As far as reputation systems, My favorite rep system across the net so far has been a simple graphic system based on time on the forum and comments posted. At a glance you knew who ran the place, knew their way around, was new, etc. At some point the Mediocre site will start running more experiments - do you tag beta rats with an experiment specific graphic? That links back to the site they participate on? I'm starting to wander down into the "too much visual" road though, so I'll table the rest.
I'd like to see the rest of the window move up with the "leave a comment bar" that pops up, that way I can read what Thumperchick said while typing up more talking points.
things I didn't like about past reputation systems/forums. Downvotes. Booo Downvotes, it just encourages nasty behavior. I've noticed communities get by in a more civil manner when it's strictly upvotes or nothing.
PM could be nice too, maybe we could get an official chatroom going? I started that rinky dink official one, but without a lot of news going on there hasn't been much interest in it yet.
No matter what happens, i'm ready to be disappointed.
@thumperchick I see the need for private messaging, but it's pretty hard to prioritize it above doing some actual experiments. We might try to build a system that would let you and someone else email back and forth without divulging either email system, but it's something @shawn would have to weight in on, and it's probably just easier to assume we're going to fail on that front.
I want all private messages to be publicly visible so that the NSA can check here for underachieving terrorists. If you don't have anything to hide, you shouldn't object.
Hope it's half as handsome as I am.

Yeah, we may try to encapsulate all that into 1 number, and then have more detail on a user page.
All the beauty of Scarlett Johansen, none of the sass.

Solid catch.
Needs to be a bit dirtier. We are experimenting, after all.

I agree it's not something that is an immediate need. Most of us here already know how to reach each other.

But then you wouldn't be surprised on your birthday.
