What to do with my Woot! lights...

DanielTheNerd thought this was worth mentioning said Sun, Oct 12th 2014 at 6:41pm ET

I have three sets of Woot! lights, two standard and one red\blue. I haven't been to Woot in years and it's been longer than that since I bought something from there. So the question is what do I do with them besides stare at them and remember the good 'ol times? Maybe I can sell them in a few years as Retro technology?

I've got a set of the standard ones, too. Maybe use them inside some jack-o-lanterns for a fun effect? String them on the Christmas tree?

I always wanted to turn them into internet connected things and use IFTTT to turn them on for various situations. Have everything I need, just no particular desire.

I gave my last set to @lichme a long time ago. Seems like forever ago. I also gave him a licence plate and a cord of every kind imaginable. I may have sent him a superdrive and some other stuff. I just remember it was a fun random BoC for him.

Hmmm. I believe I have a set that work and a set that doesn't. There was one time where in order to get a bag of crap you had to order lights. I think. Never had any use for them. Would feel kind of stupid having them on during a Woot-off since I work at home.

- @pooflady Would anyone like mine? I have a hunch the set that doesn't work would be easily fixable by someone with a modicum of electrical know-how. Be happy to send either or both sets to someone that wants them.

I modded mine with super bright LED's and upped the voltage for a bit more speed...good times.

- @tightwad Hey, me too. Well, with the LEDs. They put white LEDs in there and they didn't look right so I retrofitted with superbright Ambers and they look right. It's a good party light. They shall not adorn my Festivus pole though.
