Now that my 2048 and Geoguessr marathons have ended, I'm on the prowl for a new quick-ish addictive game to play in between work projects during my free time at home. Anyone have anything good???
@derek got me hooked on Warlight, which you can play a few turns at a time, but if you're wanting something you can complete quickly, Maverick Bird, Terry Cavanagh's Flappy Bird-alike, is fun (and supremely frustrating). My high score on this computer is 11.
I play a lot of match-3 games. I like how you can play them without too much thought, but if you put a lot of thought into it, you can play them even better.
It's at least 10 times better than any other match 3 games.
Some tips to make it more fun:
Coins pile up pretty quickly in-game, so don't be afraid to use them. Though I like to stockpile mine for a lazy day and a hard level and use them to keep refilling my lives.
You don't need to connect to Facebook, but if you are worried about ever losing your progress, I've found it's safe to connect because, unlike every other friggin' match-3 game, it actually asks you before trying to post.
Don't do the hero challenges when first offered. Finish the stage first, because then you have to spend 5000 coins or wait 36 hours to get to the next stage. During that time, go back and try to get 3 stars on each level, especially the ones with a crown on the door because those are the ones with hero challenges. (You have to get 3 stars on them before it'll let you try the challenge.)
Most importantly, you have to know the "Gimme Three Stars" song. To the tune of Skynyrd's "Gimme Three Steps", it goes:
Gimme 3 stars Gimme 3 stars monsters Gimme three stars for the floor
Gimme 3 stars Gimme 3 stars monsters And you'll never see me no more
Since the Steam Summer Sale is going on, I've bought about 4-5 games (all under $5) even though my library is still full of stuff I haven't played. I just started Farcry3 Blood Dragon last night and it's really fun. Retro 16-bit cutscenes and 80s action movie dialogue mixed with futuristic cyborg powers and weapons.
Been downloading a lot of the classics on to my WiiU. My current obsession is to get through Punch Out without looking up how to beat certain opponents.

Do you use dive ever?
For a few of the trickier obstacles, yeah
Up to 14
oh man, that's really difficult. I think the techno and shaking background make it worse
I got to 13 after half an hour of techno & frustration!
NBA Jam for Windows Phone. I stopped by a hipster arcade last week and it whet my appetite for some Jam.
Loved NBA Jam.
BOOM SHAKA-LAKA

Some of the best I've found are:
I play some on my iPad and some on my Android phone. At least a couple of those are available on both.
This could be exactly what I am looking for! I'm downloading Monster Busters now
knights of puzzlelot stopped crashing often
I swore I'd never play Candy Crush! So, bout a week ago... dang... hang on... blasted resurrecting chocolate ...
Ok, what were we talking about?
I too fell into Candy Crush but quickly got bored when the paywalls started to hit and quit cold turkey.
eek Candy Crush! I have avoided it thus far... but maybe it's time to give in. Is it possible to enjoy it and avoid paying?
@girlgonemild, I have never paid a dime and enjoy it still.
I'm on level 512, I think. Never paid for anything. Totally addicted.
i always paid the 99 cents to get to the next set of levels. got stuck for like a month on some 4xx level and it wasn't fun any more.
Ah, you've downloaded Monster Busters...

Now I'm stuck on Real Racing 3. Varoom!!
Watch Dogs. Am so addicted I watch people play on twitch from work, then go home and play.
I love when I feel that way about a game. Twitch is one of my favorite things (besides the chat, Kappa).
Forge. www.playforgewar.com
As much fun to watch as to play. made by a few guys on a tight budget who want to stick it to the man.

Did they keep the original racist characters? If so, good luck against
He was renamed to Soda Popinski once the whole Mike Tyson incident; funny enough though, that IS the opponent I am stuck on right now.
