What's everyone doing for thanksgiving?

Just curious to what everyone's plans are. I ask today because I'm leaving tomorrow to drive down to humboldt, then to berkeley on monday and back home on wednesday.

I just moved up to seattle and borrowed my dad's truck for the move, so I'll be driving back down to Socal (4th 1400+ mile drive in 3 months woo!) to bring down his truck. I guess my parents invited a few family friends over and I'll be doing all the cooking for 12-16... Something I've never really done before. Could be disastrous- it should be a lot of fun though... Got a good 10 courses planned. Maybe you guys could also add some special holiday favorites that aren't the old standbys? I could use some inspiration in different dishes.

Anyways, what are you all up to?

We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel, so we'll probably be going to my parents for dinner and doing family stuff all weekend.

Wow good luck on cooking for that sized group! I'm always amazed by folks who are both creative enough to enjoy cooking and live to enjoy the social event moments it enhances.

Thanksgiving to me is a blur of hellos, goodbyes and dirty dishes where I try to make sure not to make anyone exceptionally unhappy by being a social dullard.

We're going to my sister-in-law's along with 26 other family members. I make the pies; deep dish apple, pecan, pumpkin, banana cream, french silk.

Having a friendsgiving here in Dallas. Would it be bad to skip the turkey and just serve pie and cookies? Lots and lots of pie and cookies.

- My make believe friends are real! Just like Santa. And the tooth fairy. Plus I get to eat whatever pie they don't finish. Which is awesome.

Probably our first Thanksgiving at home in…5 years? We usually use the break as an excuse to take a trip, but with a recent move decided to actually stay home and do the whole family dinner thing.

Are you rocking appetizers and desserts yourself too? Or are you handling just the core meal?

For us - we'll do an early meal at the FIL's, then evening meal at MIL's.

asparagus wrapped in black forest ham and cream cheese was the best new thing I had this week. It's pretty easy, too.

I jumped ship from Dallas for Atlanta. And the cold weather has just followed me.. no escape.

I'm making a paleo stuffing this year... hopefully its a good replacement for the delicious bready stuff that usually dominates my plate but we'll see :)

And food-wise, we're trying out stuffed acorn squash this year. (Stuffed with wild rice, almond slivers, molasses.)

Smoking a turkey. And two racks of ribs while I'm at it. Brining begins tonight, then rub in the morning while the fire gets going. Hickory & cherry plus Oakridge BBQ's Secret Weapon rub and Game Changer brine. But staying here in Virginia with our brand new puppy (just picked him up this morning).

Also in Atlanta, (well, Cobb county, close enough). My (new) wife and I are spending our first Thanksgiving together, so we are cooking here. And I'll be getting up and freezing my butt off running in a 10k that starts at 7:30. It was chilly last year: it is going to be colder this year. It's not so bad when you are running but it sucks waiting for the race to start. There was actually sleet in the yard this morning (but nothing on the roads.)

We were going to go to my sister's, but due to some miscommunication/misinterpretation she made plans to go out-of-state. (And I had specially asked off from work to go.)

@pooflady, Sounds delicious. My wife made a crust yesterday and, I think, traditional pumpkin pie today, for tomorrow's desert.

When in doubt, it's a comment. I add a note when it's so short and inconsequential I'd feel silly having it bump the topic up on the home page. (Like saying "I agree." or "You have a typo.") Anything that might keep the conversation going (and inspire a reply) should be a comment.
